The Ogun State Government has launched a program to offer free surgery for 70,000 residents, ensuring access to quality healthcare regardless of financial status. The initiative, starting on July 1, 2024, aims to provide essential medical interventions at no cost to individuals in need of surgical procedures.
The program will cover a range of surgical requirements, encompassing procedures for bones, eyes, and more, to be carried out at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital. To ensure the program's effectiveness, the government has partnered with international medical experts who contribute their specialized knowledge to the initiative.
One beneficiary of the program, Mrs. Funke, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to undergo surgery for a hernia that she has been living with for the past five years. Unable to afford the procedure previously, she is now able to regain her health thanks to the government’s intervention.
The government remains committed to expanding the program in the future to reach even more individuals in need of medical assistance. Registration for the program is open until August 31, 2024, with eligible participants undergoing a medical assessment to determine their suitability for the free surgery.
The introduction of this program by the Ogun State Government reflects a substantial effort to guarantee equitable access to vital healthcare services for all residents, showcasing a dedicated commitment to the welfare of its citizens.
