FORMER OGUN STATE GOVERNORS SPEAK OUT ON SEIZED PRESIDENTIAL JETS IN PARIS

Former Ogun State governors, Ibikunle Amosun and Gbenga Daniel, have recently made significant revelations regarding the controversy surrounding the seized presidential jets in Paris, shedding light on their involvement in the unfolding situation.

Amosun, who led Ogun State from 2011 to 2019, described the issue as a "Chinese against Chinese" dispute and expressed readiness to cooperate with government agencies to prevent any potential scams involving Zhongfu International Investment Co. Ltd.

Gbenga Daniel, who governed from 2003 to 2011, also shared his perspective, mentioning his possession of documents that could aid the investigation.

Recent reports revealed that three Nigerian presidential jets, including a newly acquired Airbus, have been seized by a French court amid a legal dispute involving a sub-national entity and Zhongshan Fucheng. The seized aircraft, including a Dassault Falcon 7X, a Boeing 737, and an Airbus A330, were either part of the Nigerian presidential fleet or recently purchased by the government.

According to the report by Awotoye Janet, the seizure of the presidential jets was a result of an application by the Chinese company whose export processing zone management contract was allegedly revoked by the Ogun State government in 2016. Despite an arbitral tribunal ruling in favor of Zhongshan and awarding them compensation, the decision has yet to be honored.

Zhongshan sought enforcement of the arbitral award through the French legal system, resulting in the enforcement judge at the Paris Judicial Court granting the company authority to seize the aircraft.

The court order specified that the aircraft must be secured to prevent their movement, ensuring they cannot take off autonomously.
