Troops from the Forward Operations Base (FOB) in Yobe apprehended a 43-year-old man for being in possession of 19 seed-planting machines that were reported stolen from the state government's Agriculture Empowerment Programme.
The individual, hailing from Jigawa State, was apprehended while concealing the equipment in a bus on the Potiskum to Gombe Road. He alleged purchasing the items from a third party but lacked evidence of ownership or authorization to resell them.
The suspect and the recovered items are set to be transferred to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for legal action, aligning with Governor Mai Mala Buni's directive to apprehend individuals transporting the equipment out of the state.
The authorities emphasized the importance of safeguarding public resources and ensuring accountability in government programs. Governor Mai Mala Buni reiterated the state's commitment to combating corruption and protecting the interests of farmers and beneficiaries of agricultural initiatives. This incident serves as a stern warning to those engaging in illicit activities and attempting to profit from the misappropriation of public assets.
Furthermore, the collaborative effort between the military and security agencies showcases the dedication to upholding the rule of law and maintaining order within the state. The swift action taken in this case demonstrates the effectiveness of interagency cooperation in combating crime and preserving the integrity of government projects aimed at empowering local communities.
