President Donald Trump expressed his desire to “clean out” Gaza, advocating for Egypt and Jordan to welcome more Palestinian refugees from the region.
During a recent press briefing aboard Air Force One, President Donald Trump stated his intention to “clean out” Gaza, urging Egypt and Jordan to accept more Palestinian refugees. He revealed that he had spoken with King Abdullah II of Jordan earlier that day and planned to discuss the situation with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi later on Sunday.
“I would like Egypt to take people,” Trump remarked, suggesting that around 1.5 million individuals could be relocated. He praised Jordan for its efforts in accepting Palestinian refugees and encouraged the king to take in more, describing the current state of the Gaza Strip as a “real mess.”
The ongoing conflict has displaced nearly the entire population of Gaza, which numbers approximately 2.3 million, with many residents being uprooted multiple times. Trump indicated that the movement of Gaza's inhabitants could be either temporary or long-term, describing the area as a “demolition site” where destruction and loss of life are rampant.
In response to these comments, Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi highlighted the importance of a two-state solution for achieving peace, emphasizing the need for collaboration with Arab nations to address the crisis effectively.
Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi emphasized the country’s firm stance against displacement, responding indirectly to President Trump’s recent remarks. He stated that Jordan is eager to collaborate with the Trump administration and is committed to supporting peace initiatives throughout the region, as noted by the Jordanian Foreign Ministry.
In stark contrast, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) condemned Trump’s suggestion, labeling it as an endorsement of “war crimes.” The group, which recently fought alongside Hamas against Israel, criticized the proposal as “deplorable,” asserting that it promotes violations of human rights by compelling Palestinians to leave their homeland.
They further claimed that Trump’s statements align with extreme Zionist agendas that deny the existence and rights of the Palestinian people, urging Egypt and Jordan to reject his plan.
