Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Super Eagles striker, Victor Okoh Boniface, has signed a new contract with the German club, extending his stay until the summer of 2029. The 24-year-old joined Die Werkself from Union Saint-Gilloise in the summer of 2023 and has played a pivotal role in the club’s resurgence among Europe’s elite teams.
In his debut season under coach Xabi Alonso, Boniface helped lead Leverkusen to victory in both the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal, as well as reaching the UEFA Europa League final, where they were narrowly defeated by Ademola Lookman’s Atalanta. Boniface's impressive performance earned him the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award for 2023/2024.
The forward scored 21 goals and provided 10 assists for Leverkusen last season, attracting interest from several top clubs. However, Boniface has expressed a clear preference against playing in the English Premier League. In light of ongoing links to Manchester United, Leverkusen has taken proactive steps to secure the long-term future of the Super Eagles striker at the Bay Arena.
According to Sky Germany, Victor Boniface’s contract with Bayer 04 Leverkusen has been extended for another year, now running until 2029. The 1.9m-tall forward is poised to become one of the club’s top earners, with reports indicating that his annual salary, currently around three million euros, is set to double following his request for a new deal last December.
Boniface's initial contract was due to expire in the summer of 2028, but he has now secured an extension. The Nigerian forward last played in November during Nigeria’s 2-1 loss to the Republic of Ireland and has since been sidelined with a thigh injury. Despite his absence, Xabi Alonso’s squad has thrived, winning eleven of their last thirteen matches.
He has returned to training with the Leverkusen team but has not participated in their last two games as he works to regain full fitness. While Boniface has committed to the club, Leverkusen remains open to transferring him for the right price, reportedly willing to consider offers around €50 million (£42m/$52m) for the former Royale Union Saint-Gilloise star.
