FEDERAL GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES PROJECT 774 LG CONNECTIVITY TO PROVIDE INTERNET ACCESS TO 21 MILLION NIGERIANS

Abuja, Nigeria - In a significant effort to enhance digital access and foster inclusive growth, the Federal Government of Nigeria has launched a groundbreaking connectivity project aimed at providing basic mobile access to 21 million people nationwide. 

The initiative, called "Project 774 LG Connectivity," aims to connect 774 local government secretariats across the country to the Internet, thereby increasing digital access, creating jobs, and empowering communities.

Reports indicate that NIGCOMSAT Ltd. has begun the installation of VSATs to cover 579 local government areas in Nigeria through satellite coverage, utilizing the Ku-band network asset of NigComSat-1R. This project is anticipated to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural areas, offering reliable and affordable Internet access to underserved communities.

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to expanding digital access and promoting inclusive growth, with this project representing a significant step toward achieving this objective. 

With this development, Nigeria is poised to make a giant leap toward becoming a digitally driven economy, providing citizens with enhanced opportunities to access information, education, and economic empowerment.
