The Idumota market in Lagos was thrown into chaos on January 20, 2025, as the GORODOM section was suddenly closed by market authorities. The closure, announced without prior notice, left traders and customers stranded, leading to widespread frustration.

Traders expressed their disappointment, with Mrs. Abosede, a long-time vendor, stating, "I was not informed about the closure, and I came all the way from Ikorodu to buy goods for my shop. This is not fair, and we demand an explanation from the market authorities."

The GORODOM section is one of the busiest parts of the market, known for its diverse range of goods, including textiles, electronics, and foodstuffs. Many traders reported being caught off guard, with their goods still on display.

Mr. Chukwuma, an electronics seller, added, "We were not told anything about the closure, and we are still trying to find out what is going on. This is a big blow to our businesses." Traders are urging market authorities to reconsider their decision.

The market authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the closure of the GORODOM section, but sources indicate it may be linked to an ongoing dispute between market leaders and the Lagos State government over market management.

As traders protest the closure, customers are seeking alternative markets, resulting in significant losses for affected vendors. Mrs. Abosede emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, "We urge the market authorities and the Lagos State government to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. We cannot afford to lose any more business, and we need to get back to our normal trading activities."

The closure of the GORODOM section has caused considerable concern within the trading community, with many awaiting a swift resolution to the crisis.
