The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, has arrested 18 suspects and seized various illicit substances in a major crackdown on drug-related activities across the state.

The command’s spokesman, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, announced the arrests in a statement on Friday, quoting the Kano State Commander, Abubakar Idris-Ahmad. He said the operation was part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking in the state.

On January 30, NDLEA operatives raided several well-known drug hotspots, including Fagge Area, Kwarin Kaya, Kofar Wambai, and Kofar Mata. According to Muhammad-Maigatari, the raid at Kwarin Kaya was particularly tense, as some suspects attempted to intimidate the officers from a distance. However, the operatives remained resolute and executed the operation successfully without any incident.

During the raid, the agency recovered significant quantities of illicit substances, including cannabis sativa and rubber solution, which are commonly abused in the region. In addition to the drugs, officers also seized locally made dangerous weapons, further highlighting the security risks associated with these drug dens.

Commander Idris-Ahmad reiterated the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug networks and ensuring that those involved in drug-related crimes face the full force of the law. He emphasized that the NDLEA would not relent in its mission to rid Kano State of drug abuse and trafficking.

“The agency is dedicated to prosecuting all individuals involved in drug-related crimes and will continue to conduct operations aimed at securing communities from the dangers posed by substance abuse,” Idris-Ahmad stated.

The NDLEA urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement by providing information on drug-related activities in their communities. The agency assured the public that it would intensify its crackdown on drug syndicates to safeguard the state from the social and security threats posed by illicit substances.
