Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has awarded N2 million to each of the three best graduating students from the 2021/2022, 2022/2023, and 2023/2024 academic sessions of the State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa.
The governor, represented by Deputy Governor Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele, announced the cash prizes at the 6th combined convocation ceremony for the award of higher national diploma, diploma national diploma, presentation of prizes, and conferment of honorary fellowship of the Institute. Governor Abiodun reiterated the state government's commitment to supporting quality education and producing a skilled workforce.
The Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH) has graduated a total of 9,320 students across the 2022, 2023, and 2024 academic sessions, highlighting the institution's commitment to providing quality technological education. This milestone was celebrated during the 6th combined convocation ceremony, where Professor Rahman Bello delivered the convocation lecture titled "Technological Education and the Realities of the Nigerian Industrial Advancement.
Professor Bello emphasized the crucial role of technology-focused education in driving Nigeria's industrial revolution and achieving sustainable growth in the 21st century. He underscored the need for a first-class technological education system that aligns with the realities of the industrial revolution, equipping graduates with the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute to the nation's advancement.
Professor Bello commended OGITECH as a well-positioned institution to play a significant role in Nigeria's technological progress, both domestically and globally. In his welcome address, OGITECH Rector Dr. Abiodun Oluseye expressed pride in the institute's dedication to providing students with sound knowledge and values, enabling them to compete favorably on a global scale.
The convocation ceremony served as a testament to OGITECH's commitment to producing graduates equipped to contribute to Nigeria's industrial advancement and technological progress. Among notable personalities who received the honorary Fellowship award of the institute was the wife of the governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun. Mrs. Abiodun described the award as a recognition of excellence and a call to promote same.
