The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof Is-haq Oloyede, has announced that over 2,000 candidates have registered for the Exceptionally Brilliant Window. This initiative allows students below 16 years old to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

During his appearance on the Sunday edition of Inside Sources with Laolu Akande, aired on Channels Television, Oloyede emphasized the board's commitment to enforcing the 16-year minimum entry requirement for tertiary institutions. He stated that while there are many talented students in Nigeria, the number of exceptional cases is limited.

Oloyede noted, “Yes, there are exceptional students, but they are just one in a million,” highlighting the need to maintain standards while recognizing the capabilities of gifted individuals.

The introduction of the Exceptionally Brilliant Window is seen as a significant step towards recognizing and nurturing young talent in Nigeria. With the growing emphasis on educational excellence, this initiative aims to provide a platform for gifted students who might otherwise be overlooked due to age restrictions. It reflects JAMB's efforts to adapt to the changing educational landscape and encourage exceptional individuals to pursue their academic ambitions at an earlier age.

Furthermore, this move is expected to spark discussions among educators and policymakers about the importance of flexible educational pathways. By allowing younger students to take the UTME, JAMB is not only acknowledging their capabilities but also challenging traditional notions of age and readiness for higher education. As the education sector continues to evolve, stakeholders will be keen to observe the impacts of this initiative on the overall academic performance and opportunities for young Nigerians.
