AREGBE ENCOURAGES LAGOS YOUTHS TO LEVERAGE AI FOR INNOVATIVE GROWTH

The Lagos State Government is urging young people to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a vital tool for enhancing creativity, innovation, and economic growth.

This call was made during the 2025 Commonwealth Day celebration held at the University of Lagos, with the theme "AI, Youth and The Future."

Mr. Idris Aregbe, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, emphasized that AI presents vast opportunities for job creation and entrepreneurship, rather than being a threat. He encouraged young people to tap into AI's potential and take advantage of what it offers.

The event highlighted AI's transformative force in education, entrepreneurship, and creative industries. Speakers urged attendees to see AI as an ally, leveraging it to build businesses, sharpen skills, and unlock greater opportunities.

This initiative aligns with the Commonwealth's focus on youth empowerment, with over 56 member countries engaging in similar conversations around AI and the future of work. The Lagos State Government has shown its commitment to empowering young people through technology, with plans to support youths engaging in AI-driven initiatives.

In fact, the government has been promoting innovation and creativity among its agencies and parastatals. Governor Sanwo-Olu has tasked heads of government agencies to embrace innovation, creativity, and technology to optimize financial capabilities and ensure adequate funds for critical projects.

Additionally, the government has launched initiatives like the Eko Digital Skills Initiative, aiming to equip over 5,000 young people with digital skills.With such efforts, Lagos State is poised to become a hub for AI-driven innovation and entrepreneurship.
