School owners and educationists are calling for increased support for school sports in primary and secondary education. Oluwatoyin Latunde, proprietress of Subtle Kids School, stressed the need for private and public sponsorship to develop school sports, highlighting the potential for talent discovery and human capital development.
Latunde, speaking at her school's recent inter-house sports competition, emphasized the need for strategic policies from the ministries of education and sports to ensure adequate sporting facilities and competitions. "There is still a lot to do to develop school sports," she said, emphasizing the importance of providing platforms for students to showcase their talents.
The need for strategic support for school sports was echoed by Mrs. Adewuyi Oladunni, proprietress of Riverside Schools, who emphasized the importance of a collaborative effort to develop school sports while maintaining a focus on academic excellence.
The Subtle Kids School inter-house sports competition concluded with Blue House emerging victorious, securing 26 medals. Red House claimed the March Past category with 136 points, while Favour Happiness was recognized as Best Athlete of the Year.
The competition featured 24 different track and field events, providing a platform for student athletes to showcase their skills. The event also included a parents' field day, organized by Coach F.A. Ilesanmi, fostering a sense of community and shared experience.
Guest schools, including Arits Private School, Dudley Reeves School, and Four Crown Private School, participated in the 4x100m relay race, adding to the competitive spirit of the event. The inter-house sports competition was well-attended by parents, school officials, and community members, including Alhaji Latunde, Mrs. Adewuyi Oladunni of Riverside Schools, Mrs. Owolabi of Proficient Children Academy, and Mr. Afolabi of Almighty Elect Schools.
