The Federal Government has adopted the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun, Ogun State as a Federal University, established in 2005.

TASUED is Nigeria's first specialized university of education, named after Dr. Tai Solarin, a renowned activist and founder of Mayflower School. As a federal institution, TASUED will be the first federally owned tertiary school in Ogun East senatorial district. The transition requires minimal federal investment due to the university's existing infrastructure and academic program.

President Tinubu, in approving the adoption of TASUED, expressed gratitude to the Ogun State Government for the opportunity to take over this valuable educational asset. The President stated that the move honors Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who initiated the free education program in Western Nigeria, and Dr. Tai Solarin, who dedicated his life to educating children.

President Tinubu emphasized that TASUED's transition into a Federal University of Education is a strategic step in the Federal Government's commitment to bolster teacher education and enhance the quality of instruction across all educational levels. This move aligns with the government's vision to strengthen the educational system and ensure a well-trained and competent teaching force.

With TASUED's new status, the Federal Government now oversees seven education universities: Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education in Owerri, Adeyemi Federal University of Education in Ondo, the Federal University of Education, Kano, the Federal University of Education, Zaria, the Federal University of Education, Pankshin (Plateau State), and the Federal University of Education, Kontagora (Niger State).
