The management of Dangote Cement Plc has announced the release of two of its trucks that were mistakenly intercepted in Adamawa State. Loaded with 900 bags of cement each from the Obajana Cement Plant in Kogi State, the trucks were halted by security agents who alleged an attempt to export banned products to Cameroon via Adamawa State routes.
The interception, which occurred on Friday, followed an executive order by the State Government prohibiting the transportation of food and building materials across the country’s border through Adamawa State routes. However, Dangote Cement Plc clarified that the trucks were en route to deliver products to a customer, refuting claims of diversion.
Anthony Chiejina, the Group’s Chief Branding and Communication Officer, denounced the allegation, highlighting the company's operational presence in Cameroon and asserting the false and malicious nature of the accusation.
Chiejina emphasized the trucks' intended delivery within Nigeria, expressing surprise at the interception by security agents at a village named Wurolabi. Despite attempts by the drivers to explain the situation, they were detained by authorities who cited discrepancies in the Waybill information.
Following intervention by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Adamawa State, Dangote officials provided evidence of the trucks' legitimate movement from the Obajana plant to the point of interception, disproving claims of diversion. Additionally, the Adamawa State Government, in a press briefing held at the Police Headquarters, affirmed that both trucks were destined for delivery within the state and were escorted by police for that purpose.
