Edo 2024: APC SWC divided over outcome of primary


 

BENIN CITY- THERE is a clear division in the State Working Committee of the Edo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as while some members are supporting the emergence of Hon Dennis Idahosa as the candidate of the party, others are supporting Sen. Monday Okpebholo.

 

 

 

A statement by the Vice Chairman, Edo South of the party, Benson Edosomwan pledged the loyalty of the SWC to the national leadership of the party and lauded the emergence of Idahosa as the candidate.

 

 

But a very senior member of the SWC told Vanguard on phone that they were in Abuja to ensure Okpebholo is announced as the candidate of the party. “We are in Abuja to ensure that the right thing is done. Okpebholo is our candidate” he said.

 

The statement by Edosomwan reads in part “On behalf of members of the State Executive Committee of the APC in Edo State, we appeal to all members of our party across the 192 wards of our state to stay calm as the National Working Committee is working on the developments arising from the party’s primaries held last Saturday, 17th February 2024.

 

“Notwithstanding, we want to congratulate the gubernatorial candidate of our party, Rt Hon Dennis Idahosa, on his successful election during the primaries.

 

“As members of the State Executive Committee we pledge our unwavering loyalty to the National Leadership of the party.

 

“We also pledge to work with our candidate as a united family for the victory of our party and his success in the upcoming governorship elections.

 

“We are confident that Edo state under the leadership of Rt Hon Dennis Idahosa, our party will thrive and uphold the values that define the All Progressives Congress, APC.”

Meanwhile a press release by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Uwadiae Igbinigie said the SWC has passed a vote of confidence on the Acting Chairman of the Party, Emperor Jaret Tenebe, the state Secretary, Lawrence Okah and himself.  

He said a meeting of the SWC was held today where the vote of confidence was passed on the trio on the way they have piloted the affairs of the party.
