DIRECTOR BASSEY OFFOR OF CROSS RIVER STATE RAISES CONCERN OVER STIGMATIZATION OF TUBERCULOSIS SURVIVORS

Director Bassey Offor of Cross River State has raised concerns regarding the persistent stigmatization and discrimination experienced by tuberculosis survivors.

Offor underscored the imperative of halting such prejudicial actions, emphasizing their detrimental effects on survivors' mental well-being and their willingness to disclose their status, along with the resulting psychological impacts. Offor emphasized the necessity of embracing and assisting survivors to create a supportive atmosphere conducive to their adherence to treatment regimens and successful recovery.

Moreover, Offor highlighted the availability of free tuberculosis medications and assured that with proper adherence, the disease can be effectively cured. Offor also disclosed that Nigeria reports 590 new tuberculosis cases annually, emphasizing the significance of raising awareness about the disease's causes and transmission modes for early detection and treatment.
