INEC has announced Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the victor of the hotly contested election in the South-South state.

The governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has called for calm among residents following the election results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Okpebholo emerged victorious with 291,667 votes, defeating Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP). Obaseki, in a statement, highlighted concerns over the election process and urged aggrieved parties to seek legal recourse for their grievances.

Obaseki expressed disappointment over the election's conduct and emphasized the significance of upholding democratic processes. He encouraged those dissatisfied with the outcome to pursue legal avenues to address their concerns.

The governor underscored the importance of democracy's fundamental principle of allowing citizens to choose their leaders and condemned any actions that undermine this democratic right.
