Babcock University, located in Ilisan-Remo, Ogun State, celebrated the graduation of a new cohort of medical doctors on Tuesday.
The group, consisting of 93 individuals, was officially inducted into the medical profession by the Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Dr. Fatima Kyari. Represented by Prof. Olusegun Akinyinka, the oath of allegiance was administered to the graduates during the university's ninth induction ceremony held on campus.
For them, their induction event was a dream come true, as they expressed happiness and beamed with smiles for their great accomplishment after six years at Babcock.
Addressing the new inductees, among whom no fewer than 25 obtained distinctions in various courses, including Treasure Nnaji, who finished as the best-graduating student with nine distinctions, the registrar of MDCN urged them to remain focused and committed as they progress in their careers. She emphasized the importance of upholding ethical standards in the medical field, highlighting the consequences of unethical behavior.
The registrar also stressed the significance of integrity, diligence, and seeking guidance when needed in the medical profession. She encouraged the graduates to challenge themselves, utilize their acquired knowledge effectively, and always prioritize ethical practice to uphold the respect and impact that medical practitioners have in society.
In addition, ensure you steer clear of corruption of any form. Be a good example to others, be loving and caring, and always maintain absolute confidentiality with your patients.

Emphasizing the importance of returning home to add value to the country's healthcare system, she highlighted the significant investment made in their training and urged them to help turn brain drain into brain gain for Nigeria.
Acknowledging Babcock University for its high-quality resources in the health and medical fields, the registrar assured that standards would not be compromised in the regulatory role of the council. President and Vice-Chancellor of Babcock University, Prof. Ademola Tayo, commended the thorough training received by the graduands, emphasizing the importance of upholding good character and striving to save lives while adding value to society.
He also urged them to always seek new knowledge, be courageous, faithful, compassionate, and honest in their dealings at all times and circumstances. "It is not only Nigeria but the world at large that is eagerly anticipating contributions to the medical field and the economy."
The guest speaker, Dr. Ebere Okereke, a public health physician from the UK, encouraged the new inductees to build on the strong foundation provided by the university. She emphasized the importance of perseverance in the face of challenges, highlighting the community's and society's expectations for their contributions to the medical profession and the economy, especially during Nigeria's current health challenges.
Dr. Mogbekeloluwa Abikoye, representing the class, expressed gratitude to God, Babcock University, and their parents for the opportunity to enroll and graduate swiftly. He praised the university for providing them with top-notch training comparable to any world-class institution, assuring that they are well-equipped to become successful medical practitioners.
