The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has effectively obliterated more than 100,000kg of cannabis that was scattered across 51 hectares of farmland in Ekiti State.

This remarkable operation was conducted by NDLEA operatives, with the backing of the Nigerian Army, who raided three camps within the Ise-Ekiti forest reserve in the Ise/Orun Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement released by the Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, two suspects were arrested on the Toro-Jos road in Kaduna, where 305kg of cannabis (Indian hemp) was discovered concealed in a false compartment of a J5 boxer bus marked YLA 682 XM. Another suspect was apprehended in possession of 18 kilograms of the same substance in Makarfi town.

In separate incidents, two suspects were arrested on the Zaria-Kaduna highway with 1300 tablets of Tramadol, and a 30-year-old man was nabbed with 32.6kg of cannabis in Jigawa State. In Kogi State, NDLEA operatives intercepted 77,300 pills of Tramadol, Diazepam, and Exol-5, along with 1,230 bottles of Codeine in a commercial bus driven by Attai Okolo, 68, along the Aloma-Ejule road in Ofu LGA.

Further arrests were made in Borno, Kano, and Taraba states, where individuals were found in possession of various quantities of illegal drugs. Notably, a raid on the home of a drug kingpin in Ilesa, Osun State, led to the seizure of 43grams of crack cocaine, 23grams of Methamphetamine, 17.126kg of cannabis, and a locally made pistol.

The NDLEA continues to crack down on drug trafficking and abuse across the country, making significant strides in combating the illicit drug trade.
