The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has thwarted an attempt to export a shipment of “Loud,” a potent synthetic cannabis strain, hidden inside a duvet at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos. The consignment, destined for the United Kingdom, was discovered by NDLEA operatives at the airport’s cargo shed.

According to a statement issued by Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, on Sunday, two suspects—Adakole Sunday and Austin Balogun—were arrested in connection with the intercepted shipment of six parcels weighing 3.50 kilograms. Balogun admitted to receiving N700,000 to facilitate the consignment’s export.

In a related operation, NDLEA officers raided a hideout in Igbo Olumo, Ikorodu, Lagos, apprehending two suspects, Joseph Oluwasegun Adewale and Biodun Adelakun. Seized from the location were seven liters of a dangerous new drug known as skuchies, several firearms, and ammunition.

Further raids in Lagos’ notorious Akala area in Mushin on January 19 led to the recovery of 47 kilograms of skunk and 25.46 kilograms of Nitrous Oxide, also known as laughing gas. In Ekiti State, operatives arrested Adepoju Taiwo, 26, in possession of 1.950 kilograms of Canadian Loud, while in Kwara State, Auwal Sani was caught with 50,000 tramadol pills weighing 36.56 kilograms.

Meanwhile, in Kano State, a cannabis plantation in Dawakin Kudu was destroyed, with 13.1 kilograms of skunk and 125 liters of another dangerous substance, ‘suck and die,’ seized. A suspect, Sabo Ali Muhammad, was apprehended.

NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.) lauded the agency’s officers for their recent successes and their continued efforts in the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy.
