British supermodel Naomi Campbell has revealed that she has uncovered "shocking" facts while contesting her ban from serving as a trustee of her charity, Fashion For Relief. Among her claims is the discovery that an email account may have been used to impersonate her in communications with lawyers, which hindered her ability to adequately respond to allegations against her.
The 54-year-old was one of three individuals disqualified last year from being trustees of Fashion For Relief, a charity she founded in 2005 to support humanitarian causes. This decision followed an investigation by the Charity Commission, which found that only a small portion of the charity’s funds had effectively been allocated to good causes.
The commission’s investigation also revealed instances of financial misconduct, including the use of charity funds to cover Campbell’s accommodation at a five-star hotel in Cannes, France, along with expenses for spa treatments, room service, and cigarettes. As a result, Fashion For Relief was dissolved and removed from the official register of charities.
At the time, trustees maintained that hotel costs were typically covered by a donor rather than the charity itself but failed to provide evidence to support this claim. Campbell responded to the regulator’s findings with deep concern, asserting that she had entrusted control of the charity’s affairs to a lawyer and was "not in control" of financial decisions.
In her appeal against the Charity Commission’s findings, Campbell presented evidence of a fake email account allegedly used to impersonate her in legal communications. She argued that this deception left her unaware of the allegations made in the commission’s inquiry, denying her the opportunity to respond.
"I am grateful to the tribunal for allowing me to appeal the Charity Commission's findings after considering the evidence I have submitted," Campbell stated. "Ever since the commission's report, I have fought to uncover the facts. What has been unearthed so far is shocking."
The supermodel emphasized the need to raise awareness about the ease of online identity fraud, expressing her desire to "shine a light on how easy it is to fake identities online and prevent anybody else from going through what I have been through." She added that she is determined to ensure accountability and justice in this matter.
Campbell reaffirmed her commitment to philanthropy, stating, "I have never undertaken philanthropic work for personal gain, nor will I ever do so." In an Instagram post, she acknowledged the "immense" personal toll the case has taken on her and assured her followers that she would provide further details in due course.
