Ondo State Governor-Elect, Aiyedatiwa, has attributed the delay in the commencement of the state's deep-sea port project to an error in the operating license.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of his inauguration, Aiyedatiwa explained that the license, approved during the Buhari administration, contained an error in the names of the listed partners. This error led to a dispute, necessitating a correction process that involves developing a new business case for submission to the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC).
Despite the setback, Aiyedatiwa assured the public that the error would be rectified, attracting investors and driving development in the state. He acknowledged the complexity of the situation, stating that the process essentially requires a fresh start due to the procedural changes since the initial analysis.
Aiyedatiwa further explained that the correction process involves presenting new documents, verifying the continued interest of initial investors, and potentially seeking new partners. He emphasized the importance of ensuring the project's viability by addressing the delays and securing committed investors.
Shifting focus to infrastructure, Aiyedatiwa highlighted the importance of road construction and maintenance as a priority for his administration. He cited the completion of 60 kilometers of roads by the end of last year as evidence of his commitment to improving the state's infrastructure. He assured the public that road development would remain a key focus throughout his tenure, setting a precedent for future administrations.
