Cap-tied Denmark international of Nigerian descent, Patrick Dorgu, has joined Premier League giants Manchester United, pending visa and registration, the Red Devils confirmed via their official website on Sunday.
Regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in Serie A, Dorgu concludes a three-year association with Lecce with his move to Manchester United. The versatile left-back has signed a contract with the club valid until June 30, 2030, with an option for the 2031-2032 season.
The 20-year-old Dorgu departs Lecce after featuring in 57 matches across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing two assists. Born in Copenhagen, he was reportedly on the radar of the Super Eagles coaching staff before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations but ultimately pledged his allegiance to his country of birth, Denmark.
Like Manchester United's Danish-Nigerian player Chido Obi-Martin, Dorgu is also represented by Nigerian agent Kingsley Ogbodo. By appearing in a UEFA Nations League match against Spain in November 2024, Dorgu earned his fourth cap for Denmark, rendering him ineligible to wear the Super Eagles jersey.
Dorgu will look to emulate the legendary Manchester United defender of Nigerian descent, Paul McGrath, who made more than 200 appearances for the Red Devils during his seven years at the club.
