The Ogun State Government has condemned the actions of hip-hop artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, for his alleged misconduct towards officials of the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA) at his bar in Iyana Ilogbo, Ota.
portable, who is currently at large, is accused of unlawfully restricting, obstructing, and assaulting town planners Ramon Lateef, Akinpelumi Oyero, and Abidemi Onabanjo while they were performing their official duties.
Nine of his associates—Oluwaseun Ayenuwa, 19; Precious Ohiegebo, 19; Oluwapelumi Adeosun, 20; Gospel Kanu, 20; Nurudeen Warris, 21; Adetola Alashe, 25; Fatimo Muhammed, 26; Ifeoluwa Babatunde, 27; and Samuel Adeleke, 28—were arraigned before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for allegedly assaulting the officials. They face multiple charges, including armed violence, felony, obstruction, assault, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and intent to kill. Bail has been set at N5 million each.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, Governor Dapo Abiodun described Portable as a “serial dissident and unrepentant rascal” who reportedly assaults government officials without provocation.
Akinmade stated that the “indecent act” would be addressed in accordance with the law, emphasizing that Portable’s actions are becoming “shameful and intolerable” to both locals and the government due to the “chaos and fear” he incites. He reiterated the Abiodun administration’s commitment to eliminating illegal activities and promoting morality within the state.
“We are profoundly taken aback by the unpleasant and uncivil actions of hip-hop artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, on Wednesday in the Iyana-Ilogbo area where his bar is located,” the statement read. The manner in which Portable and some associates allegedly attacked the officials of the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA) is described as not only bizarre but also indicative of a decline in the Omoluabi ethos among those involved, representing a significant disgrace to the state.
Governor Dapo Abiodun condemned this “primitive and indecent act” and reaffirmed his commitment to a just and egalitarian society, stating that any individual who violates the laws of the land will face the full consequences, regardless of their social status or influence.
