NLC CALLS FOR LABOUR PARTY REBRANDING, OPEN TO MERGER OR COALITION

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called for a rebranding of the Labour Party (LP), potentially including a merger or coalition with like-minded parties. This comes amid ongoing internal turmoil within the LP.

The NLC, in a communiqué issued following its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, directed its National Administrative Council (NAC) to take steps to reclaim the party and defend its interests, particularly those of Nigerian workers.

The NLC has not recognized Julius Abure as the LP's National Chairman, despite his election at a convention in Anambra State. The communiqué emphasizes the NLC's commitment to ensuring the LP remains a vehicle for the emancipation of workers and the "oppressed masses."

The NLC expressed concern over the "opaqueness" surrounding the Labour Party's recent activities, stating that it would not allow the party to be "hijacked" by forces not representing the interests of workers and the broader Nigerian public.

The congress reiterated its commitment to ensuring the LP remains a true vehicle for the emancipation of Nigerian workers and the "oppressed masses."
